William Carpenter, III

If someone you cherish in your world received a scary diagnosis, you would want them to have the most highly trained specialist you could find. In the same light, relationships are one of the most precious and important things we as humans have in our lives. That’s why just as with our physical health, when a relationship is ill, it’s important to find someone well trained in couple’s work.

In the world of relationships and couples counseling, Dr. Carpenter is one of the most highly trained, credentialed and sought after therapists in the profession. Bringing the kind of expertise that can only come from working with countless couples over decades, Dr. Carpenter has been awarded the coveted GCT designation from Gottman, the gold standard in couple’s research and counseling and only attained by around 500 therapists worldwide over the past 40 years. A seasoned Gottman Certified Therapist, Dr. Carpenter teaches Gottman’s Art & Science of Love workshops, Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work, and the newly released Bringing Baby Home classes where he brings the research from Gottman’s landmark Emotion Coaching, the Heart of Parenting lectures. He is trained in and teaches workshops in the Gottman model for working with addiction from inside the context of the couple’s relationship for a holistic approach, and is heavily trained in the research based model for working with betrayals, affairs and trauma/PTSD.

Additionally, Gottman Marathon Counseling is also offered for those are looking for a more intensive approach. During these sessions, the couple will be Dr. Carpenter’s sole focus for 3-4 days. Prior to the first day, the couple will undergo an extensive assessment by Dr. Carpenter and the Gottman Love Lab. Using the data from this analysis, a custom treatment plan will be created which will serve as the starting point for the next several days of work. Afterward, the couple will either be sent back to their referring couples counselor for follow-up visits, or monthly follow-ups will be scheduled with Dr. Carpenter himself.
